Skybox Unboxed Featuring Jeremy Reiber

THURSDAY, AUGUST 15, 2024

The basis for Skybox’s success lies in the hard work and achievement of our employees. We are highlighting each of our team members from various departments to share their impact on Skybox and what makes them the heartbeat of our organization.

“Jeremy’s years of expertise in electrical and low voltage systems, and his collaborative style have been instrumental in the successful execution of data hall fit-out for our customers. You will often find him engaged with the customer teams, actively problem solving for their needs. He has quickly established himself as an expert to our customers. We are so excited to have him as an integral part of our team.” - SVP Construction, Ken Clausen

How did you get into the data center industry?

The start was pretty painful. In high school, I played both wide receiver and cornerback. During my sophomore year, I suffered a back injury while playing which quickly ended my football career. Going into my junior year, I inevitably had to drop out of athletics entirely and decided to attend trade school with my newfound time while still completing my high school education. After high school, I worked in the field off and on while also working as a bartender. In 2013 I landed in a datacenter as a low voltage technician at CyrusOne in Carrollton. As soon as I arrived, it felt like home: I knew I was meant to be in the data center industry immediately.

What is one thing we don’t know about you?

I love anything water related, whether it's kitesurfing, wake surfing, sailing, etc. After I moved back from Corpus Christi a buddy of mine asked if I wanted to help him with DFWSurf. I started by helping him with the paddle boards and driving the boat for the Wake Surfing lessons and group surf sessions, then I started teaching some lessons. I’m able to do a 360 turn, a backslide and a few other tricks on a shortboard. I can also ride a longboard and walk it! At one point, I was even sponsored by a local board company for kitesurfing.

What makes working for Skybox different?

Everyone here comes from a different background and has a different skill set. I have been privileged to bring my understanding of the datacenter fit out process to the team while gleaning from others regarding development, operations and our overall business. I feel as though the Skybox team never stops learning from one another because of the variety of contexts we come from both personally and professionally.

What do you enjoy most about your job?

Besides learning new things every day, I get to help design and build cutting edge data centers with a team that goes above and beyond in everything that they do. The level of excellence that this team holds spurs me on and makes me better at what I do.

What is your favorite way to spend your time off?

I would say surfing and taking my family camping. When I say camping, it’s more of taking paddleboards or a canoe down rivers with all your food and water with you and sleeping in a tent or hammock on the riverbank. Really, anything water-related: Wake surfing, Kitesurfing, and sailing.
